13-2-13

I like the date figure:  13 - 2 - 13.  Same day as the year.  And the month is February, which is my birth month (but not today - it was a few days ago).  Thirteen has been a good number for me;  I was married on a 13th, and my youngest daughter was born on a 13th.  So I had to post an entry today - before the day finishes and we are into Valentine's Day.

I have been busy as usual but also taking things a little more easy and trying not to rush about too much. Less trips abroad (only three so far for this year), and not so much teaching.  Hopefully time to make more quilts. It also shows in less posting in my blog.

But as I said in my previous post, I am getting more involved locally with crafts projects and ventures.  Glastonbury's Red Brick Building Arts will start functioning in March, and below is a leaflet with the teaching programme with which I will be involved.  I will also have an exhibition there from 8 April to May 12, together with painter Jenny Graham.  Come and see us if you can!

New local ventures

This year I am keeping my sights much more local.  I will be working on the Earth Stories SAQA project, my theme for which is "Protection of Endangered Species in the Avalon Marshes Nature Reserves". Within the area of the nature reserves on the Somerset Levels there is a craft gallery, run cooperatively by the members, who donate a proportion of their sales income to Natural England, the body who looks after some of the reserves in the area.  I have now become a member of the group and my quilts are hanging in the gallery.  Have a look at their beautiful website:  Somerset Crafts

Another local project I am getting involved with is the Red Brick Building in Glastonbury.  This building has been saved from demolition by a group of dedicated local volunteers, and after several years of hard work the building will open in March, with a full and wonderful programme of events, courses, exhibitions etc.  Do come and visit if you are in the area.  See full details in the website:  Red Brick Building .  I will be running a two day workshop there, on Monday 29 and Tuesday 30 April.  See details in my website:  www.aliciamerrett.co.uk - Forthcoming Courses page.
